Real Madrid join race for Arsenal target
According to Spanish outlet AS, Zinedine Zidane has requested the Real Madrid chiefs to make a move for RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano. Supposedly, the youngster is now on top of the club’s transfer wishlist.
At the tender age of 21, Upamecano has taken his game to the world-class level for both club and country. Robust, sturdy and intelligent, the Frenchman stands tall at the heart of Julian Nagelsmann’s back line.
Arsenal have been widely linked with him alongside bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur, but the above report states that the Los Blancos hierarchy have been ordered to join the race as soon as the transfer window reopens.
Apparently, while Zidane has completely lost faith in academy product Nacho Fernandez, he is particularly unimpressed by winter signing Eder Militao.
Upamecano’s blistering progress has meanwhile, caught the attention of the Real Madrid boss as well.
The player, as per last summer, had a £72 million release clause in his contract. That value is sure to decrease, and it’ll be exciting to see if one of his suitors can prize him away from Leipzig – a club that it itself thriving in the Bundesliga and Europe.
