PSG star poised for a Premier League move amid lack of playing time

According to French publication Le Equipe, Alphonse Areola is set to discontinue his loan deal at Real Madrid and seek a club where he is given the starting spot between the sticks.

The Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper was loaned to the Los Blancos after they signed Keylor Navas prior to the start of the season. With Thibaut Courtois having hit top gear, Areola, with a mere eight appearances this season, has been restricted to the role of a bench-warmer.

Supposedly, Real Madrid too, are unwilling to extend his temporary deal as they plan to call upon either Andriy Lunin (on loan at Oviedo) or Zinedine Zidane’s son Luca (on loan at Racing Santander).

With PSG likely to stick with the world-class services of Navas as well, Areola’s future uncertainly hangs by a thread.

In such a situation, the 27-year-old could complete a switch to the Premier League, particularly as most of the London clubs are open to signing goalkeepers. Besides football, it is also said that the English capital is a suitable choice for his family.

With Euros postponed to 2021 due to the ongoing pandemic, this move becomes Areola’s last chance at redemption. since he is below Mike Maignan and Hugo Lloris in the pecking order.
