Olivier Giroud gives befitting reply to Benzema’s comments
Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud has hit back at Karim Benzema’s controversial comments, iterating that being a go-kart isn’t all that bad if it comes along with a World Cup winner’s medal.
Earlier on Instagram, Benzema had compared Giroud to a go-kart while hailing himself as an F1 car. The remark spread across the footballing landscape like wildfire, even more so after the Real Madrid striker doubled down on his assessment by claiming that he was simply ‘speaking the truth.’
The comments sparked a war of words while underlining the strained relationship between the French strikers.
In reply, Giroud – France’s third-highest goalscorer with 39 of them from 97 appearances – told BeFoot:
“People say you cannot compare a Formula One car with a go-kart and the only thing I can say on the matter is that I’m a world champion, so that isn’t bad for a go-kart.”
While Giroud continues to remain a key figure in Didier Deschamps’ France side, he has found game time hard to come by at Chelsea, having netted just thrice in 13 outings. Meanwhile, Benzema has 19 goals from 36 for Los Blancos.
