Newcastle United – a fairy tale club through the pages of history – are set to write a fresh chapter of dominance in world football with new ownership that possesses skyrocketing turnover of monetary figures.
Expected to start their new lease of financial supremacy with an influx of high-profile transfers and representatives, the Magpies have identified Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani as a top transfer target, reports ESPN.
Mike Ashley’s 13-year reign at the helm of Newcastle is all but coming to an end, with Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund – the Public Investment Fund – backed to take over the ownership.
Led by crown prince Mohammed bin Salman and the governor Yasir Al Rumayyan, the PIF would own 80% stakes of the takeover. Contracts have been exchanged, deposits have been paid. All’s left for the agency is to pass the Premier League’s Owners and Directors test.
With the massive sum of money agreed to be flushed into the team, the project would obviously seek big-money transfers as part of their larger project.
Other names in their wishlist are Dries Mertens and Willian, while they also want to sign the likes of Max Allegri or Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager.
