Manchester City are keen on signing Nathan Ake from AFC Bournemouth according to Athletic. They report that Pep Guardiola is leading the charge to get the former Chelsea defender to the Etihad.

However, Chelsea have a buy-back clause in Ake’s contract at Bournemouth and it is reportedly valued at £40M. The Blues are also interested in signing the Dutchman and would be the front runners automatically.

Reports earlier this year suggested that the buy-back clause in Ake’s contract expired at the end of the January transfer window but Athletic report that it is very much active.

The 25-year-old has been impressive at the Vitality Stadium but The Cherries are now in a relegation battle and could face the drop to the Championship soon.

Manchester City are keen on bolstering their defence this season as Fernandinho had to play as the centre-back this season after Aymeric Laporte got injured.
