Liverpool are well poised to relieve the frustrated Dejan Lovren off his duties come summer, the Liverpool Echo believes. Understandably, the defender seems to have completely run out of patience and is currently surplus to Jurgen Klopp’s requirements at Anfield.
Since switching from Southampton in 2014, Lovren has endeared a rocky set to seasons at Liverpool. The Croatian has received major criticism for his inconsistency and schoolboy errors over the years, but was also Virgil van Dijk’s first-choice partner for a significant amount of time during their remarkable UCL and PL campaign last term.
However, he has been shoved down the pecking order, much to his exasperation.
Lovren even openly admitted to wanting a Liverpool exit last summer, stating:
“There will be a lot of matches, some injuries are possible too. I wanted to leave, it didn’t happen, I was told Liverpool need me and I accepted that. It was not meant to be for me to leave.
With the Reds stacked with three fine defenders in van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, besides the dexterous 18-year-old defender Sepp van den Berg, it’d be a wise decision to let go of a player who possesses the tendency to blow hot and cold.
