Liverpool lining up bid for top Arsenal target
If reports from Liverpool Echo are to be believed, Liverpool are considering the option of landing top Arsenal target Thomas Partey at Anfield this summer.
The midfielder impressed over both the Champions League legs against the Reds, grabbing the eyeballs of Jurgen Klopp and co. He has been one of the standout performers for Atletico Madrid for the past two seasons particularly, having settled into the pivot role in Diego Simeone’s midfield imperiously.
There were earlier reports of Arsenal – a club shorn of deep-lying base midfielders – being linked with the Ghanaian, whose release clause is worth £43 million.
In order to test the Gunners’ financial stretch, Liverpool have supposedly approached the midfielder as Klopp looks to find a competitor/back up for Fabinho, with Adam Lallana set to leave Merseyside after six years.
Although Mikel Arteta’s side require Partey’s solidity more than a well-armed Liverpool outfit, they may have to fight tooth and nail for him.
