Everton step up their interest in Chelsea target

Everton are planning to swoop LOSC Lille’s rising star Gabriel Magalhaes as they aim to snatch the widely sought after defender from under Chelsea’s noses, reports The Guardian.

Having made substantial progress in his pursuit, Carlo Ancelotti is confident of landing the 22-year-old to Goodison Park and make him his first signing at Everton.

A colossal figure in a back line that has conceded just 27 goals in 28 Ligue 1 outings this season, Magalhaes has seen his value and personal brilliance rise remarkably.

He has been on Chelsea’s radar besides Arsenal and Spurs, but Everton, who have reportedly been in contact with his representatives for two months now, are growing increasingly confident of signing him.

With Yerry Mina, Mason Holgate and an under-fire Michael Keane the only central defenders at Ancelotti’s disposal, the Italian is extremely keen on acquiring Magalhaes’ signature. The transfer would cost them a tad over £25 million.

Not just would Gabriel bolster his back line, but also provide much-needed competition to the out-of-sort defenders in the squad. However, with powerhouses such as Chelsea and Arsenal interested, the pace of negotiations hold key to the Toffees’ chances at present.
