Chelsea star confirms he is set to leave in the summer

Chelsea veteran Willian has cleared the air on his immediate future at Stamford Bridge, affirming that his time with the club could end following the end of the current season.

Having joined Chelsea in 2013, the Brazilian has scored 59 goals in a total of 329 appearances for them. During this time, he has won two league titles among other major honours.

Due to the management’s reluctance in providing large extensions to players above the age of 30 and an apparent disagreement with the player, it looks like the winger’s time at West London is coming to an unsatisfying yet successful end.

The Blues supposedly want to grant him a fresh two-year contract, but Willian insists on signing a deal worth three years.

Speaking to Fox Sports Brazil, he lifted the lid on the situation:

“Everyone knows my contract is up in a few months and it looks like it’ll be difficult to secure an extension. I think it’s unlikely that I’ll renew because Chelsea offered me a two-year deal, I asked for three and it ended there.”

He added,

“There were no more talks or negotiations. Chelsea said that three years would be impossible, so at the moment it seems unlikely that I’ll extend, but nothing is impossible.”

Willian, linked with a reunion with former coaches Maurizio Sarri [Juventus] and Jose Mourinho [Tottenham Hotspur], also claimed that he would like to remain in Europe.
