Frank Lampard orders Chelsea to sign Real Madrid star on loan
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has reportedly urged the board to snap up Real Madrid outcast Luka Jovic on loan, according to Sport.
Jovic’s first season at Santiago Bernabeu makes for grim reading as he has just a couple of goals in 24 appearances. The 22-year-old has been confined to the bench more often than not due to Karim Benzema’s rise in form as well as a perceptible lack of impact.
Jovic was signed by Los Blancos prior to this season for €60 million, for the incredible record he posted at Eintracht Frankfurt the last term with 27 goals from 48 matches.
With growing impatience over his struggles at the Spanish capital, a host of clubs including Arsenal and Chelsea have been monitoring his situation. However, the complexity of the transfer mainly depends on the faith Real Madrid keep in him come next season.
Taking advantage of the above, Lampard seems to have asked the board to buy him on temporary basis. Chelsea themselves have witnessed a lack of competition for Tammy Abraham upfront, with Olivier Giroud, until quite recently, proving his only competitor in the starting XI.
Not to mention, despite recent reports suggesting he could sign an extension, Giroud’s future at Chelsea remains up in the air.
A proven goalscorer, Jovic could boost Chelsea’s chances of pushing higher up in the table, and provide much-needed competition to Abraham.
