Chelsea midfielder hints at Stamford Bridge exit this summer

Chelsea midfielder Marco Van Ginkel has openly stated that he is unsure of an immediate future at Stamford Bridge, despite being in the reckoning for a return from injury after two long years.

Last appearing in senior football in May 2018 during his loan carousel at PSV, Van Ginkel has suffered a major anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury besides other minor setbacks.

Still only 27, the Dutchman joined Chelsea in 2013 but has since featured in just four matches for the Blues owing to recurring injuries and three loan spells – at AC Milan, Stoke City and PSV.

The talented star enjoyed his best season in 2017/18 as well, scoring an impressive 16 goals in 33 matches for the Dutch powerhouse. His contract at West London expires this summer.

Unsure of his future, he told PSV TV (via Sky Sports):

“We haven’t had contact about that yet, but other things are of course more important now. I will hear it when the moment arrives. I still have contact with people at PSV, but not about a possible winter period transfer.”

With Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Billy Gilmour, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley already racked up in Chelsea’s midfield, it’s hard to look beyond another loan or potential exit for Van Ginkel.
