Arsenal interested in signing PSG outcast
Arsenal have regenerated their interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler, as per latest reports from Foot Mercato in Germany. They were linked with the 26-year-old back in 2017, but were unable to lure him to the Emirates with PSG cashing in instead.
Draxler, a shimmering star in Schalke and Wolfsburg colours about three years back, was bought by PSG in what was supposed to be his breakthrough move.
However, a combined total of 10 goals in the last three years (with none of them coming this season), besides a paltry 12 starts this term, has halted his progress significantly. At 26 with a year remaining on his present deal with the French giants, Draxler is set to be offloaded.
The frustrated playmaker has received interest from Hertha Berlin and an unnamed Premier League side, but Arsenal, who have been long-term admirers of his style and substance, are back in the running for his signature.
He is reportedly valued at £36.5 million, which could be a touch expensive given that he has been plagued by injuries and has just 12 months remaining on his contract.
That could also prove to be troublesome for the Gunners, who have been struck by financial difficulties in recent times. The COVID-19 pandemic has not helped either, meaning they may have to negotiate a cut-price deal for Draxler.
